The MCC Governing Board has approved the following persons to serve on the MCC Bylaw Team from February 2015 through General Conference 2016 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Charge to the Bylaw Team from the Governing Board:
“The Bylaw Team shall be charged on behalf of the Governing Board to administer and implement the bylaw change process as defined in UFMCC Bylaw Addendum 1, Procedure for Submitting Bylaw Proposals (as revised at General Conference XXV, Chicago, IL (USA); 02 July 2013). The Bylaw Team will include the MCC Governing Board Bylaw Chair and at least 2 other individuals but no more than 5 in total, voting members. MCC Staff will provide administrative assistance, as needed, to the Bylaw Team as a non-voting member.”

Rev. Onetta was elected to MCC Governing Board in July 2010. She has served on the Governance and Finance Committees. Onetta has been attending (Founders) MCCLA since 1992. Onetta has served on numerous leadership teams on the local church including the Board of Directors/Vice-Moderator, regional and/or denominational level. Rev. Brooks entered seminary in August 2001 and completed Master of Divinity in May 2007. She was ordained as UFMCC clergy in January 2007. Onetta has also obtained thirty-four years of professional experience as program manager/systems/software engineer for leading aerospace/defense industry contractors. Rev. Onetta has served two MCC churches as the Intentional Interim Pastor in 2007 and 2012. Rev. Brooks nurtures and shares her spiritual gifts of wisdom teaching, administration and discernment in her ministry and service to MCC. Also, Onetta is currently the President-Elect of the Pomona College Alumni Association Board.

Joel-Martinez-GutierrezJoel Martinez Gutierrez
is 31 years old, single male, born in Monterrey, Mexico. He graduated for Law School, with a Master in International Law. He has been working in various legal firms in Monterrey and also as an Ethics, Philosophy, Constitutional Law and Community Engagement teacher at the Monterrey Tech. Joel currently works as a Legal Director in a toy industry company.

Joel had been a devoted Presbyterian since my childhood; he grew up being very active in Church activities and even being part of Board of Directors of different church groups as a teenager and young adult. He left the Presbyterian Church in 2009 and joined Casa de Luz MCC in Monterrey on late 2012. He was appointed by the congregation as a Secretary of the Board of Directors on June 2013 until February 2015. So far, Joel has been Bible study group leader and acting responsible for welcome committee at MCC Church, also actively participating in specific projects for the MCC community.

Rev. Mel Martinez is an ordained minister in the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. A graduate of Perkins School of Theology (Dallas, TX), Pastor Mel comes to us to preach the Gospel and make joy-filled music to God. Ministry is Mel’s calling and vocation, and she is blessed to be able to do both in witness to God’s glorious work at Wichita Falls MCC since January of 2012. Pastor Mel grew up attending Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Weatherford, Texas. Her background in the church began at a very early age and Mel has experienced church in the Pentecostal, Baptist, Church of Christ, and Methodist traditions. Mel’s tenure in MCC began in 1991, when she visited an MCC for the first time (MCC San Antonio). From that moment on, Mel remained dedicated to the mission and vision of the MCC movement. Pastor Mel ministered as a lay person in the denominational offices of MCC from 2003-2011, filling the roles of Executive Assistant to an Elder, Director of MCC’s Online Ministry and Co-Lead of MCC Transgender Ministries. Pastor Mel completed her seminary work and her ordination process in MCC while maintaining employment with the denomination. Pastor Mel is a talented pastor, musician, administrator, writer, and educator. Pastor Mel writes, edits, and publishes various resources and was instrumental in the October 2010 release of the “MCC TRANSFormative Church Ministry Program,” which features her programmatic and ritual writing. She shares her life with her partner, Tammy, and daughter, Brylee.

Sarah-Jane Ramage (S-J), MCC Governing Board/Secretary
S-J was elected to MCC Governing Board in July 2013. She is an assistant director in Deloitte’s UK restructuring services division of corporate finance. In this role she has been responsible for assisting businesses which are in financial trouble and managing businesses which have entered insolvency proceedings, she now provides compliance reviews for teams across all aspects of corporate finance. She holds an MA from the University of Cambridge and is a chartered accountant.

She lives just outside Brighton on the South Coast of England with her husband Andrew and his two adult children. She has been a member of MCC Brighton (UK) for 12 years, having searched for MCC since graduating in 2000. She has served in a variety of roles both administrative and worship focused and currently serves on the Worship team and board of directors. Since attending general conference in Acapulco in 2010, her interest in the wider denomination has grown and she served on the International Task Force during 2011 and 2012. S-J has always demonstrated her faith in her secular life and truly embodies the values of MCC both spiritually and in matters of social justice and diversity, participating in her employers’ diversity network specifically considering trans and bisexual issues.

Linda Brenner-Beckstead, Assistant to the Moderator / Bylaw Team Staff Support
Linda has been a member of MCC for 17 years and joined the denominational staff in 2012 as Assistant to the Moderator for Rev. Dr. Nancy Wilson, and ITF Consultant to the Governing Board.

Previously in Nebraska, Linda was a Network Co-Lead for the Heartland Network. At MCC Omaha, she served on the board of directors as moderator, was the marketing minister for four years, and a lay delegate in 2010.
