logopngOur annual tradition of holding special designated offerings during Easter for Global Justice at Metropolitan Community Churches across the globe will continue this year. These designated offerings, which will occur between Easter and Pentecost, will accomplish amazing things in the lives of oppressed people and advance the cause of justice for LGBTQI people around the globe.
Last year, MCC’s generous Easter Offerings empowered The Global Justice Institute to work with grassroots organizations to:
  • Create the Coalition of Affirming Africans, a group of churches on the ground in East Africa combating deadly government-sanctioned homophobia with the message of God’s love for all;
  • Secure U.S. and Canadian asylum for LGBTQI refugees experiencing discrimination and violence in their home countries. In 2013 alone, GJI sponsored 7 asylum seekers from countries such as Uganda, Malaysia, and Jamaica;
  • Foster community conversations about HIV/AIDS in Costa Rica by subsidizing La Carpa (The Tent), a weekly breakfast open to all that blurs boundaries between the homeless and housed, LGBTQI and straight Costa Ricans;
  • Establish a global Runaway and Homeless Youth Network to create housing and advocate for better futures for LGBTQI youth forced to leave their homes.

Our goals for 2014 include but are not limited to:

  • Continuing to work with activists in Russia and Ukraine to restore safe space in these increasingly unsafe environments;
  • Developing the Women’s Economic Development Project in Costa Rica through our current partnership with Humanitas;
  • Partnering with HIV/AIDS groups in Mexico;
  • Securing safe space for affirming clergy in East Africa;
  • Establishing international safe houses for those chased out of Nigeria and Uganda.

How can you get involved with the life-changing work at the global level? Talk to your pastor or church community about holding a special offering for Global Justice, and keep in touch with The Global Justice Institute on Facebook.

Please email us at Easter@GlobalJusticeInstitute.com to make us aware of your church holding an offering, and we can add you to our Pacesetters list.
