Position Summary

This position focuses on the music and worship arts ministries of the congregation. It is instrumental in designing and implementing Resurrection MCC’s music ministry and worship services and serves as the primary point of contact and accountability for the choirs, ensembles, bands, instrumentalists, and musicians. This position requires a balance of long-term vision and planning while executing programs and systems that support current needs. This position works as a member of the Worship Planning Team and reports to the Senior Pastor.

Position Responsibilities

1. Proactively communicate, support and fulfill the mission, vision, core values, purposes and goals of the church.
2. Build a high-performance team who collectively and individually execute against specific goals established for the Music program.
3. Play strategic role in design and implementation of Resurrection’s worship services and special events, coordinate the planning and execution of all musical elements, and participate on the Worship Planning Team for continuous visioning and evaluation of the Worship Arts Ministry.
4. Select and approve music for all Resurrection MCC services and functions. Choose music and texts that enhance worship and that reinforce the scriptures and theme of worship. Develop congregational hymnody (hymns, praise choruses, et al) to reflect the history of our community, UFMCC as a world church, and our beliefs and values.
5. Shepherd the spiritual growth and unity of the music ministry and strengthen communication among and between various music groups.
6. Model servant leadership while recruiting, training, coaching, and caring for staff and volunteer teams to implement responsibilities assigned to this position.

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music is required; Graduate work in music or creative arts is desirable.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading worship, conducting, music education and exercising pastoral care is required. Five years experience in a music/creative arts position in management/supervisory capacity for large church is preferred.
• Carry oneself as a spiritual leader and model integrity and sincerity in all relationships with the ability to gain trust and hold confidences.
• A minimum of two years experience serving as a staff member or volunteer leader in a Metropolitan Community Church or other similar inclusive faith community is required.
• Good interpersonal, conflict resolution, and team building skills needed.
• Sensitivity to cultural differences and able to embrace diversity.
• Experience with GLBTQ and social justice organizations a plus.
