Rain Drops RAIN GARDEN

All God’s Children MCC (Minneapolis, Minnesota) has constructed and planted a Rain Garden, which is eco-friendly, protects the environment, and beautifies the neighborhood.
Rain gardens are designed to capture rainwater, so that it can penetrate into the soil, reducing the storm runoff, which takes pollutants from the air, yards, and streets, carrying it into the lakes, rivers, and wetlands.  The special design and plantings of low maintenance perennials capture the runoff and allow the water to drain slowly into the ground, recharging underground aquifers with filtered, cleaner water.
The church received a grant from Metro Blooms for the design, excavation, plants, and mulch.  They only had to do the planting and occasional weeding.

 RAISED VOICES

Raised Voices is a new ministry being offered by Emerald City MCC (Seattle, Washington) after noticing that there were specific queer and trans pen pal projects, but none which brought the two together.  They knew that letter writing programs are important for inmates, since such mail may be their only contact with people on the outside.

Raised Voices currently serves TGI inmates at facilities in Washington and Oregon. They feel a regional focus will help with relationship building and resource referral. Inmates don’t have to be wary of getting religion pushed on them if they sign up, but knowing that there is rarely any queer-affirming pastoral care provided, it would be available if the inmates so chose.

If you know someone incarcerated in Washington or Oregon, let them know about Raised Voices, so they can send a letter to Raised Voices, C/O Emerald City MCC, 1122 East Pike Street, PMB 930, Seattle, Washington 98122.

 THE JOURNEY AT AGAPE MCC

Beginning in September, Agape MCC (Ft. Worth, Texas) will be offering a spiritual development cycle called The Journey.  There will be a seTake the Journeyries of classes and experiences to help participants discern where they are spiritually and understand where they would like to be.  Each person will be equipped to create his/her own Rule of Life… a planned rhythm for living in which people are gradually transformed into Christlikeness.
Over the next three months, different people will lead classes in spiritual gifts, spiritual types, and Benedictine spirituality as they become intentional about their spiritual lives beyond Sunday worship and engage those things that lead to centeredness, wholeness, authenticity, service and deep love of Spirit, neighbor, and self.

MCC OF GREATER DALLAS HAS A NEW HOME

Earlier this month the congregation made the pilgrimage from the hotel where they had been meeting to their new location, where they celebrated Communion together.  The next Sunday they held their first full worship service in their new home.
The building has a reception area, a 2520 square foot sanctuary, a large fellowship hall and kitchen, three offices, two classrooms, a bookstore, a large meeting room, storage, restrooms, and a parking lot.
They have built their own stage and sound booth, as well as done much of the work around the building as they are settling into their new facility.  MCC GD is now located in Carrollton, Texas, just off I-35.

FUNDRAISING MADE PERSONAL

Instead of having a committee plan and execute several fundraisers to help the Exodus MCC (Abilene, Texas) reach its goal of raising $15,000 (USD) for Habitat for Humanity by the church’s 30th anniversary, they are challenging individuals to facilitate a project which they create themselves.

Ventures so far this month have included a lemonade stand, selling homemade cupcakes, can recycling, and a spaghetti supper.  Yet to come are a garage sale and a brisket dinner.
What a neat idea for fundraising for any church!
